Field Trips

The preschool year is almost done and is going out with a bang! The first field trip was to Napa Bowl. A dream come true for Isabella.

 

The kids made it through the first 5 frames and then began dreaming about the cupcakes waiting for them on the food table. Bowling fun can only last for so long...then sugar calls.

Isabella managed to get a spare, but it was lost on her. The funnest part of the experience were the shoes, of course.

The last few frames became a game between Isabella and Amelie. They would count to 3, roll their bowling balls down the racks at the same time and then jump up and down, looking at each other and  squealing with delight. They didn't even notice how many pins they knocked down, because that's not the point.

The second field trip was to the library. No photos, so picture this: we're sitting in the children's library section, all the four and five year olds gathered around the librarian listening to her tell the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. After the story, the librarian teaches the kids how to treat library books, then begins her explanation of how to check out a book. She holds up a visual--an oversized library card in a plastic pouch, so the kids can see what one looks like.

"How many of you have one of these?" she asks with librarian enthusiasm. Many kids raise their hand. And then she asks, "and do you know how many books you can check out?"

But Isabella is stuck on the first question and is dying to share the thoughts bursting in her head.
With her hands cupped around her mouth, to ensure that everyone can hear her, she calls out, "My daddy has one of those [library cards], but it's smaller and is not laminated."

"Smaller and not laminated" repeats the librarian. "That is quite the sentence."she says amidst giggles from the adults.

My friend Kathy turns to me and says, "well, you can't tell that she's been raised by two teachers"
