Everything but the Animals

We eagerly anticipated the first Wednesday of the month when admission to the SF Zoo was free for everyone--except those of us living outside of San Francisco. Oops. Still, Isabella was super excited about the prospect of seeing "real" animals--that is, until she entered the zoo. These days Isabella is more of an explorer than an observer, so while the animals were a nice distraction during the long walk, there were far more intriguing things to do at the zoo.

Mom suggested going to see the mandrils.
-Isabella wanted to explore a grove of trees.
What about the lions?
- Why, when there's a playground?
The tigers?
-Nope. A soft pretzel, please.
Bears?
-How about a ride on the carousel?

As we were leaving, I asked Isabella what her favorite animal was that she saw at the zoo that day.
"I liked the ostrich," said she, "on the carousel."

Mom promised her a little gift from the gift shop. Her first choice? A toy train. In the end though, she chose a Mama and baby giraffe, which were far more exciting than the real ones.
